Germany, with over 84 million wealthy consumers, is the third largest importer of consumer-oriented agricultural products. In 2024, grocery retail sales reached approximately USD 293 billion, with imports of consumer-oriented agricultural products rising sharply by 33 percent to USD 91.9 billion.
Germany is the third-largest importer of sweet and sour cherries in the world. Between 52 and 77 percent of cherries consumed in Germany are imported, mostly from other EU member states.
Germany has almost 84 million of the world’s wealthiest consumers and is by far the biggest market in the European Union. The German market offers good opportunities for U.S. exporters of consumer-oriented agricultural products.
