  |   Attaché Report (GAIN)

For MY2020/21, Post projects Chilean almond production to reach 11,000 metric tons (MT), and exports to increase to 9,500 MT or 35 percent, assuming unchanged planted area, higher yields due to favorable climatic conditions, and a recovery in export markets from the shocks of the COVID-19 pandemic. For MY2020/21, Post estimates walnut production to reach 158,000 MT and exports to increase to 155,000 MT (in-shell basis), a 29.2 percent increase over the previous marketing year, following planted area increase, favorable climatic conditions, and a rebound in the demand for walnuts. In marketing year (MY) 2019/20, Chilean almond imports increased by 40.5 percent in volume and by 37.7 percent in value over MY 2018/19.
