Ukraine: Exporter Guide

  |   Attaché Report (GAIN)

Ukraine is a lower-middle income country in Eastern Europe. Its economy is slowly recovering after the political and economic turmoil of recent years. Ukraine’s imports of agricultural products grew over 20 percent from September 2017 to September 2018, and the retail food market is growing as well. As a major agricultural producer and exporter, Ukraine also possesses a large food-processing industry. The majority of agricultural import growth in the near future is likely to concentrate in food ingredients. However, domestic producers occupy an overwhelming share of the retail sector with imported products concentrated in the high-end retail segment. The Hotel, Restaurant and Catering sector is also on the rise in larger towns and cities, following the same pattern as the retail sector. Trends for Western-style food are profound and can spell more imports in the near future. In the last fifteen years, imported food products increased their presence from 6 to 15 percent.
