Pakistan: FAIRS Annual Country Report

  |   Attaché Report (GAIN)   |   PK2023-0021
The report outlines regulatory requirements and import procedures for food and agricultural imports into Pakistan. As compared to the last report submitted in December 2022, this report contains additions to food laws, packaging, and common delays sections. Lack of clarity on regulations to import genetically engineered commodities for food, feed, and processing caused soybean imports to stop as of November 2022. High import duties and labelling and halal requirements hinder opportunities for most types of food imports. The federal government regulates Pakistan’s food imports, and the provincial governments regulate food safety standards.
