The sector not only caters to consumers in the Netherlands but has clients in all neighboring countries and beyond. On the sourcing side, Dutch food companies not only depend on Dutch growers but also those abroad, including the United States. Almost a fifth of U.S. agricultural exports to the EU are imported by Dutch traders. It is a small country geographically but the food traders and processors are here.
