Japan: Japan Revises Beef and Pork Safeguards After Japan-EU EPA

  |   Attaché Report (GAIN)

On January 31, 2019, Japan’s Ministry of Finance revised the beef and pork safeguard trigger volumes to reflect the entry into force of a free trade agreement between Japan and the European Union (EU) on February 1. The revision removes EU imports from the trigger conditions, which count imports only from countries with which Japan does not have a free trade agreement. This follows an earlier revision on December 30, 2018 after entry into force of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership.
