On July 16, 2021, the European Commission published the EU Forest Strategy for 2030. As part of the European Green Deal, the Strategy aims to contribute to the EU’s greenhouse gas emission reduction target of at least 55 percent by 2030. The Strategy calls for better protection of EU forests to combat climate change and biodiversity loss.
