China: China Changes Pre-Notification Process for U.S. Pork Imports

  |   Attaché Report (GAIN)

On April 16, 2018, China’s Food Safety Bureau (formerly of the Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine) stopped using the electronic Trade Document Exchange System (eTDE) to receive pre-notification information for incoming U.S.-origin pork shipments. As a result, all pork shipments that had not yet cleared Chinese customs (CIQ) were halted until a new process could be implemented to verify pre-notification information. The USDA Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) announced this new process in a recent update to the FSIS Export Library - China Requirements. Under the new process, pork shipments are already being cleared, albeit at a slowed pace. Post will continue to monitor and report on the situation as necessary.
