Bulgaria: Wine Annual

  |   Attaché Report (GAIN)

Post forecasts Bulgaria’s 2018 grape crop at 270,000 metric tons (MT), most of which will produce about 130 to 135 million liters of wine. The Bulgarian wine sector continues to evolve, driven by investments, increasing disposable incomes, tourism and a thriving food-service industry. Wine consumption increased by 3 percent in 2017 and consumer trends reveal a growing preference for higher-quality wines. Although January-August 2018 trade data indicate wine imports decreased by 12 percent in terms of volume, imports during this period increased in value by 11 percent. Poland, Sweden and the United Kingdom were the top export markets for Bulgarian wine (value terms) in 2017 and in 2018 to date.
