Barbados: Barbados Subjects More Food Items to a 15 Percent VAT

During its June budgetary deliberations the Barbadian Parliament modified the basket of food items eligible for VAT free consideration. The proposed 2015 Financial Statement & Budgetary Proposal, ratified by the Parliament and signed into law by the Prime Minister, goes into effect with the 2015 Fiscal Year commencing on September 1, 2015. Food items remaining in and taken out of the VATfree basket follow sorted according to its classification under the Harmonized Schedule tariff code. Items taken out of the VAT-free basket will now be subject to the 15 percent tax.
