Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack joined agriculture ministers from the rest of the G20 in Florence Sept. 16-18, 2021, to discuss sustainable solutions to the global challenges facing agriculture

Secretary Vilsack today called on the agriculture leaders of the G20 to come together to end hunger and poverty, combat climate change. and build more sustainable, equitable, and resilient food systems.

Secretary Tom Vilsack will travel to the G20 Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting in Italy this week, reaffirming the United States’ commitment to international engagement on agriculture and making the case for joint action on climate, food security, innovation, and closer global integration through trade.

The U.S. government will host an informal, virtual listening session on Sept. 3 to solicit stakeholder input in advance of the UN Food Systems Summit, which takes place Sept. 23.

As head of the United States delegation to the UN Food Systems Pre-Summit Ministerial in Rome, Deputy Agriculture Secretary Dr. Jewel Bronaugh delivered the U.S. National Statement.

Deputy Secretary Dr. Jewel Bronaugh will lead the U.S. delegation to the UN Food Systems Pre-Summit in Rome July 26-28, working to build coalitions and consensus around priorities including food security and nutrition, climate change, and equity and inclusion.

Led by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the United States is joining a global coalition focused on improving the nutrition, health, and education of vulnerable children and adolescents worldwide.

In his remarks to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, Secretary Vilsack emphasized the U.S. commitment to climate-smart agriculture and forestry practices, science-based rulemaking, and collaboration on addressing global food insecurity.

The Agriculture Innovation Mission (AIM) for Climate will increase and accelerate global innovation research and development on agriculture and food systems in support of climate action.
