South Africa: SADC Countries Suspend Processed Meat Imports from South Africa

On March 4, 2018, a large number of Southern African countries, including Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe, suspended processed meat imports from South Africa following confirmation that the source of the recent historic listeria outbreak is contaminated processed meat. South Africa is the largest regional exporter of processed meat. It is not clear from the notifications when these countries will lift the suspension of imports of processed meat from South Africa.
