The March 2023 Essential Food Price Monitoring Report published by South Africa’s Competition Commission provided a deep dive into the poultry value chain. The report highlights the role of poultry as a staple in the South African diet and notes that the poorest 10% of households spend up to 7% of their income on chicken.
