In 2022, India granted import market access to U.S. pork and pork products, marking the resolution of a long-standing barrier to U.S. agricultural trade. In the course of this year, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare/Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) published a series of notifications stipulating that effective January 1, 2023, all milk, pork and fish products imported into India require a health certificate issued by a competent authority of the exporting country in the format published in the FSSAI notification.

On December 13, 2022, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare/Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) published notification No. Std/EC/T(NSF-01) (Appendix I) in the Gazette of India: Extraordinary. The notification was subsequently published on the FSSAI (food safety authority) website on December 14, 2022.
India’s soybean, peanut, and sunflowerseed production for marketing year (MY) 2022/23 (October-September) is estimated at 11.1 million metric tons (MMT), 6.65 MMT, and 200,000 metric tons, respectively, reflecting heavy late season rainfall in September and October that impacted yields and crop quality.
Based on total commitments to date (imports plus outstanding purchases), the 2022/23 import forecast is reduced from 3 to 2.6 million tons. With the impact of the summer’s floods proving to be even worse than initially anticipated, the 2022/23 rice production estimate is decreased to 6 million tons. As a result of the expectations for lower domestic supplies, 2022/23 rice exports are also lowered to 3.6 million tons.
Orange production is expected to decline in Australia in marketing year (MY) 2022/23 to 505,000 metric tons (MT) from an estimated 535,000 MT in MY 2021/22. However, exports are forecast to rise to 180,000 MT from an estimated 145,000 MT in MY 2021/22, due to an anticipated substantial improvement in fruit quality.

The marketing year (MY) 2022/23 total cotton production area for Uzbekistan is forecast as 980,000 hectares (ha) and the cotton production is estimated as 675,000 metric tons (MT) (3.10 million bales). Post forecasts MY 2022/23 consumption of cotton to be about 653,000 MT (3 million bales) for MY 2022/23.
Ethanol consumption in Australia is forecast to remain stable in 2022 at only 1.1 percent of the gasoline pool, and biodiesel is forecast to increase moderately from very low levels but remain at less than 0.1 percent of the total diesel pool. Australia has very large feedstock (grains and molasses) supplies for bioethanol as well as robust supplies of feedstock (canola, tallow and used cooked oil) for biodiesel production.
