On September 13, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) released details for the re-implementation of additional import requirements pertaining to romaine lettuce, and products containing fresh romaine lettuce, from the United States.
Global lentil exports in 2020 jumped from $1 billion to $2.6 billion compared to the year before. Canada and Australia led the surge, accounting for more than three-fourths of the exports. Lentil exports peaked at $2.7 billion in 2015 but drifted lower through 2019, primarily due to reduced shipments from Canada to India and Turkey and from the United States to Canada and India.
Both the Canadian cattle and swine herd will see contraction to begin 2022. The impacts from the 2021 drought will result in a lower Canadian calf crop in 2022.
FAS/Canada projects moderate growth in chicken meat production in 2022, following a robust recovery in 2021 prompted by stronger than anticipated sales through the retail channel and quick-service restaurants.
