In 2024, Brazil recorded extreme weather events including the intensification of heat waves in several regions. Although the impacts of the fire outbreaks in the sugarcane production are difficult to estimate, the losses caused directly by the fires should not affect Brazil´s total sugar production in the MY 2024/25.

Brazil’s sugarcane fields performed exceptionally well in the marketing year (MY) April 2023 to March 2024, producing a record of 705 million metric tons (MMT).

The cane harvest and crushing continued through November in Brazil's main sugar-producing Center-South (CS) region with good weather and prices. Total sugar production is estimated at 41 million metric tons (MMT) for 2023/24. Exports are estimated at 32 MMT.

Post forecasts Brazil’s marketing year (MY, April – March) 2023/2024 sugarcane crush at 652 million metric tons (MMT), an increase of five percent compared to the final estimate for MY2022/23 (621 MMT).

Brazil’s Marketing Year (MY) 2023/24 sugarcane crop is forecast to reach 661.4 million metric tons (MMT), which is 6.5 percent larger than MY 2022/23, because of favorable weather conditions and high sugar prices.

Brazil’s Marketing Year (MY) 2022/23 sugarcane crop is estimated at 621 million metric tons (MMT), an increase of eight percent compared to the final estimate for MY 2021/22 (576 MMT), supported by better weather conditions vis-à-vis the previous year. Sugar prices remain attractive and sugar-ethanol plants have focused on sugar production as opposed to ethanol. Brazilian exports for MY 2022/23 are estimated at 28.2 MMT, raw value, an increase of 2.25 MMT relative to the previous season.

Brazil’s Marketing Year (MY) 2022/23 sugarcane crop is forecast to recover to 613 million metric tons (mmt), an increase of six percent compared to the final estimate for MY 2021/22 (576 mmt), supported by better weather conditions vis-à-vis the previous year.

Brazil’s Marketing Year (MY) 2021/22 sugarcane crop is estimated at 590 million metric tons (MMT), a decrease of ten percent compared to the final estimate for MY 2020/21 (657 MMT).

Brazil’s Marketing Year (MY) 2021/22 sugarcane crop is estimated at 635 million metric tons (mmt), a decrease of three percent compared to the final estimate for MY 2020/21 (657 mmt).

Brazil’s MY 2020/21 sugarcane crush has been revised upward to 655 million metric tons (mmt), due to overall favorable weather conditions in the north-northeastern growing region.

Brazil’s Marketing Year (MY) 2020/21 sugarcane crush is estimated at 650 Million Metric Tons (mmt), virtually unchanged from MY 2019/20 crop (647 mmt).
