China: Food Processing Ingredients

The food processing industry in China continues to develop and expand, creating products for the most populous country of consumers with increasingly distinguished tastes. Nutritious and healthy options are popular, as are bakery products and beverages.

China: Grain and Feed Annual

Post forecasts overall feed demand to decline by 2 percent in MY2022/23 as prices rise and additional contraction of the swine industry is anticipated. Corn for feed consumption in MY2022/23 is forecast up 2.8 percent, or 6 million metric tons (MMT). MY2022/23 corn, wheat, and rice production are all forecast down due to the push to increase oilseed production and weather conditions in major wheat growing areas.

China: Cotton and Products Annual

Higher downstream demand for textiles and garments and reduced cotton yarn imports are expected to raise spinning demand for cotton in marketing year (MY) 22/23, lifting cotton imports to an estimated 2.3 million metric tons (MMT).
On March 28, the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (GACC) published a Pine Wood Nematode (PWN) Port Quarantine Guidelines policy interpretation document. The document provides additional information on the implementation of GACC Announcement No. 110 of 2021, titled Phytosanitary Requirements for Pine Wood from Countries with Pine Wood Nematode Presence.
The purpose of this report is to provide U.S. agricultural trade associations with information on compliance with the “Law of the People’s Republic of China on Administration of Activities of Overseas Nongovernmental Organizations in the Mainland of China” (FNGO Law).

The 2022 No.1 Document signaled no major policy changes but placed greater importance on maintaining achievements made toward food security.

China: Oilseeds and Products Annual

Rising feed demand coupled with limited availability and higher prices for protein-rich substitutes is expected to increase China’s soybean imports to a record forecast 100 million metric tons (MMT) in Marketing Year (MY) 22/23.
On March 4, 2022, the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (GACC) made 42 additions to the list of products subject to Decree 248. American exporters are encouraged to pay attention to the additions which include meat, seafood, and certain beverages.
On March 2, 2022, the Supreme People's Court of China issued "Guiding Opinions on Further Strengthening the Criminal Trial Work Involving Seeds" (hereinafter referred to as the "Opinions"). The Opinions clarify the general requirements for strengthening seed-related criminal trials, the application of law to seed-related crimes, and improvement of relevant enforcement mechanisms.
