Ukraine: Grain and Feed Quarterly

This report contains updated Marketing Year (MY) 2020/21 and MY2021/22 production, trade, and consumption estimates for Ukraine. According to the recent national statistical data MY2021/22 production numbers for wheat, barley, corn and rye are higher compared to MY2020/21, thus translating into higher export volumes.

Argentina: Grain and Feed Update

Wheat production in marketing year (MY) 2021/2022 is estimated at a record 21.8 million tons, 1.3 million tons higher than the official USDA number. In consequence, exports are increased to 15.2 million tons (including flour in its wheat equivalent).

South Africa: Grain and Feed Update

South Africa had an excellent start to the 2021/22 MY, with carry-over soil moisture and widespread rains that led corn producers to start plantings two to four weeks earlier than usual. Excessive rainfall during December to early January caused damage to planted crops in some areas that could impact crop size, although the extent will only become clear over the next few months.

India: Grain and Feed Update - January 2022

On November 24, 2021, the Indian government approved the extension of the additional free food grains scheme through March 31, 2022. With this extension, an additional 16 million metric tons (MMT) of grains will be released from government stocks.
The Mexican Ministry of Health is proposing changes to the existing NOM-187 published in 2003. The purpose of the amendment is to establish the classification, ingredients, and specifications that products derived from corn and wheat need to meet.
On January 7, 2022, the Turkish Government published Biosafety Decisions on the import of genetically engineered (GE) soybean and corn events. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MinAF) approved one new soybean event and one new corn event for feed and cancelled the approvals of two corn events which expired on 12/24/2021.
On December 31, 2021, Turkey announced a revised tariff list for a number of products. According to a Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette, the import tariffs on wheat, corn, rye, barley, oats, chickpeas, and lentils, has been eliminated through December 31, 2022.

Mexico: Grain and Feed Update

Mexico’s wheat production forecast for marketing year (MY) 2021/22 is revised upward, based on more complete figures from Mexico's Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER), and reflecting favorable weather conditions that resulted in higher yields than initially expected.
On December 10, 2021, the Government of Kenya announced it would grant exemptions to tariffs on non-genetically-modified (GM) feed ingredients in response to rising feed costs.
The Government of Argentina has announced new limits on corn and wheat exports. These limits are intended to guarantee sufficient supplies of both commodities for domestic users, in part to help reduce inflationary pressure.
