Pakistan: FAIRS Country Report

  |   Attaché Report (GAIN)

This report outlines regulatory requirements and import procedures for food and agricultural imports into Pakistan. Compared to the previous report released in 2014, sections I, III, and 1X, and Appendix II have been modified. All imports into Pakistan are governed by the Import Policy Order issued by the Ministry of Commerce. The Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority is the national standardization body. Pakistan’s food imports are regulated by the federal government and food safety standards are regulated by the provincial governments. Pakistan food laws cover 104 food items falling into nine broad categories. In situations where a product is not covered by existing regulations in Pakistan, officials generally adopt Codex guidelines.
