Mozambique: Agricultural Biotechnology Annual

  |   Attaché Report (GAIN)   |   MZ2024-0003
Mozambique has begun to draft a Biotechnology Law that will allow GE commercialization. The country planted its first genetically engineered (GE) corn trial in 2017 to test drought and pest resistance. The trial followed biosafety regulation governing the management of “genetically modified organisms” formalized under Decree No. 71/2014. Research on GE crops has showed promise, and commercialization of at least one GE product is expected soon, along with passage of a new Biotechnology Law.
