Japan: HPAI Spreads to Largest Broiler Producing Region

On December 1, the Government of Japan announced that highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) had been detected in Miyazaki prefecture, making it the fourth prefecture with an HPAI detection this season. Miyazaki prefecture is the largest broiler producing region accounting for 20 percent of Japan’s broiler flock. There have been 14 cases for HPAI detected in Japan since November 4, resulting in the cull of 1.9 million birds.
