India: Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Outbreaks in Odisha and Bihar

On January 7, 2019, the Government of India (GOI) reported an outbreak of a highly pathogenic influenza A virus of serotype H5N1 in Odisha and Bihar. Earlier, on December 28, 2018, the GOI reported another outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza virus (HPAI) of serotype H5N1 in Munger district of Bihar. The GOI issued an advisory to the affected states to contain the outbreak.
