India: FSSAI Omits Standards for Fortified Foods from its Food Product and Food Additives Regulations-2011

  |   Attaché Report (GAIN)

On June 8, 2020, the Government of India’s (GOI) Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued a notification to operationalize the draft Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Amendment Regulations, 2020, relating to standards for fortified Atta (wheat flour), Maida (refined flour), iodized salt and iron fortified iodized salt. In order to avoid duplication and confusion among the stakeholders as to which level of fortification to follow, FSSAI removed the fortification standards for these food products from the Food Product Standards and Food Additives regulation as these also exist in its Food Safety and Standards (Fortification of Foods) Regulations, 2018.
