India: Food Processing Ingredients

  |   Attaché Report (GAIN)   |   IN2021-0041

Despite the challenges delivered by COVID-19, the Indian food processing industry continues to expand rapidly. The sector has significant growth potential due to rising incomes and greater consumption of value-added products, driven by major demographic changes, including rising urbanization and greater dual income households. Over the past year, the food processing sector adapted to new, COVID-19 spurred consumption trends, including increased demand for immunity-boosting foods and affordable packaged food item sizes. In response to COVID-19’s negative impact on the food processing sector, the Government of India introduced a variety of new support programs, most noticeably the Atmanirbhar Bharat (“Self-Reliant India”) campaign.
