India: Cotton and Products Update

  |   Attaché Report (GAIN)

FAS Mumbai estimates marketing year (MY) 2018/19 cotton acreage at 12.35 million hectares and production at 27.8 million 480-pound (lb) bales. The lower production estimate is based on erratic rains in the cotton growing states of Gujarat and Maharashtra. However, FAS Mumbai estimates strong growth in cotton consumption at 25.3 million 480-pound (lb) bales. Strong cotton yarn exports is contributing to mills increasing cotton stocks, which have reached record levels.
