Egypt: Biotechnology and Other New Production Technologies Annual

  |   Attaché Report (GAIN)   |   EG2021-0024

In order to move forward in the area of agriculture biotechnology, Egypt needs a biosafety legal framework. The absence of a legal framework inhibits field trials, as well as the commercial use of genetically engineered (GE) crops. The planting of GE crops is currently not authorized. The absence of a biosafety legal framework contributes directly to a lack of public awareness and trust in agricultural biotechnology. A national biosafety system is an important component to develop agriculture biotechnology products.
